As a place performing the function of welfare center in eastern district of Seoul, Donbu Women's Development Center project won a prize in design contest for expansion of women's participation in society through welfare improvement and lifelong education. By dividing the mass by actively considering the harmony with surrounding lower floor commercial facilities and inflow of the pedestrians at the street front, the frontality was secured and the separation of the funcionality was intended. The structural pillars that continue on the first floor piloti are the repetitive same elements on the whole elevation, which produces the directivity of the flow, uniformity of elevation, and stability. And by creating the central garden, the architectural external inside space was provided. The underground swimming pool could be accessed through outside stairs for easy access, and by introducing the natural lights through sunken space, the comfortability of the underground environment was promoted.
