One such project is the master plan for Bundang, the foremost first-generation new town currently figuring among the richest regions in Korea. Based on the first implementation of the “urban axis” principle, this master plan comprises the master plan of East Pangyo, which is a second-generation new town with innovative urban planning underpinned by methodical regulation of local people’s involvement and cutting-edge technology, and the master plan of Eunpyoung New Town, which offered solutions to a number of problems affecting different projects of urban renewal. <br /><br /> Within master plans becoming the basic framework of urban architectural environment, Kunwon suggested that the master plan should not frame the architectural design but that master plan and architectural designs should be formulated concomitantly. Greater design integration for organic associations among interior and exterior and among natural and artificial can be achieved through three-dimensional spatial use planning if the standard approach of three-dimensional architectural designs followed by two-dimensional land use plan is abandoned.
